How bad are the mosquitoes and blackflies?

Full disclosure.... bug season in New Brunswick can be intense.  Blackflies are the first on the scene, usually beginning around mid May to mid June.  Mosquitoes begin to appear not long after the blackflies.  Dog flies are a nuance when the weather turns very hot.  Things start to subside by early to mid August.  Head nets and bug repellent are highly recommended.  The cottage offers a 3 season room with lots of air ventilation so you can enjoy the feeling of fresh air without swatting non stop.

Having said that.... the early part of the summer we are blessed with fireflies in the field behind the cottage.  They can put on quite a magical display.  Nature is like that, asking us to enjoy the good and the bad at the same time.
